Becoming a BCHC MEMBER

Prospective members of BCHC represent a wide cross-section of Backcountry enthusiasts. For that reason, our several membership TYPES, as well as the many Local Units situated throughout California provide a variety of choices to meet every Member’s need.

MEMBERSHIP is a simple, 3-step process: selecting a membership TYPE; determining Local Unit affiliation; and, submitting a Membership Application Form.
——————————————————————————–
STEP ONE: One of these Membership Types will be most suitable for you:

  • Individual
  • Family (Shared)
  • Benefactor
  • Patron
  • Mt. Whitney
  • Associate

——————————————————————————–
STEP TWO: Select from the BCHC Local Units (refer to the BCHC State website) the one with which you will prefer to participate. You will probably want to participate with the group nearest either your residence or your favorite trails area.

Your application will be processed and acknowledged within one week of receipt at the Membership Office. Your selected Local Unit will be informed of your new membership, and you’re all set.

Subscriptions to the newsletter of Backcountry Horsemen of America and to BCHC’s own newsletter, BACKCOUNTRY NEWS, will be entered automatically for you.

Local Units will contact you regarding their many activities, all of which are open to all BCHC members. Most Local Units also publish their own newsletters; plan on receiving those as well.

Understanding SHARED membership type: Not officially a type of membership within BCHC, this term is used by the Membership staff to refer to a growing portion of our group. Many of our FAMILY memberships involve persons with DIFFERING LAST NAMES residing at the same address. In order for each of TWO voting (adult) persons to be listed on membership rosters under their own last names, we must handle their records a little differently. (Note: BCHC must insist that both parties reside at the same address to qualify for the FAMILY membership.)
